A Streamline Moderne graphic design. Byrne uses a minimalist, three-colour palette to create a sense of high-speed motion. The sharp, diagonal lines of the boat and the rhythmic, stylised "V" shapes of the wake convey urgency and power. This poster was specifically designed to recruit for what became known as the "Hooligan Navy". Following the attack on Pearl Harbour, the U.S. Coast Guard was desperately short of vessels for coastal defence. They appealed to civilian yachtsmen and boat owners to enlist themselves and their private crafts to patrol for Nazi U-boats.
