Depotabteilung (Depot Division) is a pioneering work of mixed-media collage, blending bureaucratic stamps, manic handwriting, and watercolour. It critiques the dehumanising nature of administrative systems, turning the orderly "depot" into a visual cacophony of red tape and lost identity. Wiener is often called the "Austrian John Heartfield" for these political montages; his work was so critical of authority that he remained largely unacknowledged.
