Moving toward Expressionism, this work vibrates with colour. The bold orange background clashes energetically with the cool blue patterned blouse. The visible brushstrokes and the subject's direct, modern gaze demonstrate Klimt’s late-career shift away from gold toward a more raw, painterly style that prioritises mood over intricate ornamentation. The painting is technically unfinished; the artist never completed the rendering of the subject's lips.
