Klimt redefines the biblical heroine as a sensual "femme fatale". The gold leaf creates a shimmering, decadent atmosphere that blurs the line between sacred and profane. The contrast between her delicate, realistic skin and the heavy, flat gold patterns of the background captures the dual nature of power and desire. For many years, the public mistakenly identified the figure as Salome, despite the title being inscribed on the frame.
