Deformation I (Information I) is a masterclass in Cubist-inspired chaos; this work uses a frantic grid of intersecting lines to "deform" the visual plane. The prismatic shards of colour create a sense of kinetic energy, reflecting the fragmented and overwhelming nature of information and urban life in the pre-war era. This piece is part of Wiener's exploration into how structural lines can dictate emotion; he often used these webs to symbolise the psychological entrapment or the interconnectedness of modern society.
