Thayer's masterpiece of Victorian elegance, potryas Bessie (left) and Clara Stillman. This work utilises a restricted palette to emphasise form and silhouette. The overlapping figures create a rhythmic grace, while the delicate lace details and the hand resting on a wall suggest a narrative of quiet, shared domestic life and mutual support. Thayer studied at the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris between 1875–1879.
