An exquisite 1842 botanical illustration by Miss S.A. Drake featuring the violet trumpet blooms of Bignonia picta. Delicately rendered with scientific precision, this piece captures the graceful flow of the climbing vine and lush foliage, adding a touch of vintage elegance to any interior. While the outlines were printed, the vibrant colours in the original prints were often applied by hand. Large workshops of "colourists" (frequently women) would sit in rows, applying watercolours to each individual print to match a master copy. This is why antique prints often show slight variations in hue - each one is technically a unique hand-painted work.
